| USB speed, does this sound normal?
The 1490T has a USB 2.0 according to the spec sheet. Copying data to/from the internal memory or the optional microSD card I get a transfer rate of about 500KB/sec (about 1/2 a MegaByte per second). This is WAY below USB 2.0 speed and more indicative of USB 1.0. I am wondering if this slow speed is the nature of the beast. I realize I can put the microSD in an external reader and get higher speeds but the transfer rate to the internal flash memory seems very slow. Is this normal? |

Yes, this is normal. It's the same on my zumo 660 and my GPSMAP 76CSx. Faster transfer rates if you take it out of the device and use a media reader. The connector itself may comply with the USB 2.0 specification - but the processor or some other hardware component appears to be slowing it down. Internal flash memory may be the culprit.

Thanks HumVee but if it's really the Garmin internal memory that doesn't explain why my super duper SanDisk microSD memory card is a slug too when accessed via the Garmin USB 2.0 port. At this point it pretty much only affects map upgrades to the internal flash. |

I will have to test transfer speeds on my zumo 660 and GPSMAP 76CSx this weekend and get back to you. I don't recall transfering files to and from my z660 when it's attached as a storage device is particularly slow. I was thinking of map set compiling when I responded to you earlier. It's painfully slow, and I just let it run over night.
