Vista HCx won't power on with SD card fitted

Hi guys,

My first post so be gentle please. Newbie to GPS which I intend to use for cycling

Week old Garmin Vista HCx with a 2Gb Kingston SD card fitted. On the card were a complete set of OpenCycleMap maps on it. Wanted to added City Nav 2010 maos for GB & Ireland.

paid for downlaod version, attempted to download it. The download failed about 2/3rds of way through. Tried again. Failed, again. Noticed after second attempt the map on the display looked odd. Bit of searching suggested a reset which should reindex the card. Powered unit off. Now when powered on with the card in the garmin screen displays for a second or two and then the unit just shuts down. Without the card fitted it appears to work fine but now only has a a very basic map on it. A reset can be done without the card no problem.

Has my SD card, and maps on it got corrupted beyond fixing? Help, advice, sympathy, all gratefully received. Feeling pretty stupid right now.

Re: Vista HCx won't power on with SD card fitted

Sounds like the file is corrupt on the card. Did the download failbecause of lack of space? The Vista HCx doesn't support multiple map files on a single card. You will probably need a separate card for City Nav and Open Cycle Maps. Are the Open Cycle Maps loaded via Mapsource or Mapinstall? If they are you may be able to combine both mapsets into a single mapdata file.

Can you open the SD card's directory on your computer and delete the partial City Nav file? Maybe that is causing it to hang on startup.

shouldn't have done there was about 1.5Gb free space and the download claimed to be 250ish Mb.
