| Can a 1490T be configured like this?
I would very much like to configure my 1490T to display additional information continuously. The following graphic implies it can be done but I am at a loss on how to do it. Any guidance appreciated. http://www.gpsmagazine.com/assets/re...t/IMG_2068.jpg |

| Re: Can a 1490T be configured like this? schmidtj, you must have read the GPS Magazine review of the 1490T too quickly. It states on the bottom of page 3 (under a better photograph of the display) that this is called "More Data" mode, and can be selected in the Map Settings Menu. I looked at the Owner's Manual for your Garmin nüvi 1490T, and could find no mention of the feature! It may be that it's only available after a firmware update that came out after the manual was published. I must say that I'm astounded at the in-depth detail and thoroughness of the GPS Magazine reviews. 14 pages for the 1490T, touching on how to update firmware and use MapSource! I've posted a comment in the review, asking for more details on the "More Data" mode.... Since I don't have a 1490T, and you do, schmidtj, could you look in Map Settings and see if you can find it? |

You beat me to it. I revisited GPSMagazine.com (again) and found the reference that I had skipped over previously (several times). The reason I never found it on my own is it requires you to scroll down one page in the settings dialog otherwise it's not visible. One I enabled "more data" it works fine. What's nice is it's configurable two ways depending on whether you're navigating to a destination or just driving. Thanks. PS. I now miss my Garmin SP 2610 a little less. I do REALLY miss the IR remote though. |

Great! For the benefit of other 1490T owners, can you describe exactly how to get to the settings? Maybe even include a couple of screenshots?

Thanks again, schmidtj! Pictures help a great deal when you're new to a product. That will be a great boon for anyone who owns a 1490T and searches the forum.
