New to working with maps

I recently bought a etrex hcx to use while snowmobiling. Got a set of trail overlays for NY but found out the install maps on the etrex suck, Not enough roads.
So I downloaded the Garmin City Navigator 2010.30 USA Mexico Canada.
How do I combine the two? Apparently you can only have on map on the card with a certain name.
Any Ideas? I laments terms also please.
I'm about ready to heave this thing against the wall.

The trail map loads using mapsource and makes the gmapsupp.img file on the card.

Re: New to working with maps

Did the download of City Nav 2010.30 install into Mapsource as well?

If you see both products in Mapsource, you pick the areas you want to install from each product, then load the maps at one time. It generates the img file with map data from both the trail map and City Nav.

No what I downloaded was the image file itself. I tried to download the complete mapsource but it was corrupted somehow. I'll have to hit the torrent sites again and find another one.
