| No current speed indicator Garmin Nuvi 760
Hi, My GPS doesn't show my current speed when GPS is in navigation mode, only when browsing in Map View. Is there a fix for this annoying problem please? |

| Re: No current speed indicator Garmin Nuvi 760 tregann, looking at the screenshots of your Garmin nüvi 760's interface, it looks like it is very similar to my zūmo 660's. A quick perusal of the Owner's Manual wasn't particularly helpful, otherwise I'd give you some page numbers to read up. However, if your interface truly is like my zumo's, then you have a very customizable interface. Simpy tap either the bottom right or left corner of the display while in map/driving mode to bring up your "Trip Computer." You will see a check-mark next to the currently selected data field that shows up in map/driving mode for that corner of the screen. If you wish to view a different set of data while driving, simply tap it to move the checkmark to that data set. If you don't see what you're looking for, scroll down. When done, tap the Back button. It should be as easy as that. Give it a try, and let us know if you have any problems.... |

Thanks, but I don't have those options! Its a know problem with Garmins. I was just hoping someone had come up with a firmware update or something to fix this bad error! I've tried Garmin, but there support are completely clueless! I don't know where they found them but I'm sure they wouldn't have to pay them much!

tregann, What shows up in the bottom left corner when in the Nav mode. Other than the older units (I-5 for example) they should show Speed. Have you updated the firmware with webupdater? Garmin: Web Updater You state this is a known issue but I could not find any other complaints out on the web. Im not saying its not I just could not find any. |

Doppler, Bottom Left Corner Only [BLC] shows ETA, when navigating. If in Map View only with no route or destination selected my NUVI 760 shows both the speed [BLC] and speed limit. But when I select a destination or a route so as to get turn instructions, etc. the unit displays speed limit only & ETA in BLC. |

tregann, I feel your pain. nuvi 750 here, and I find it very annoying that Garmin "dumbed down" the nuvi line so newbies wouldn't be intimidated (as much). Sucks that we can't tell nuvis what to do like the rest of the product line. |

The best way to show dissatisfaction is with your $$$! The next time I'm buying a product I will steer clear of any branded Garmin!

tregann, the thing is, I don't really care that the speed doesn't appear. So, while I lament the thinking that made it unavailable, I do not find it an issue. If I want one that does everything I want, I need to do the research up front and find the right one. Since the nuvi was my first, I did not actually know what I wanted until after I had purchased it. Now, I'm following the market and will buy another when it is available. Nobody (not just Garmin) yet makes the "right" one. |

True, but brands need to listen their customers & address their concerns. A lot of other people out there want basic things like speed indicator showing also. Garmin couldn't even understand what my issue was never alone address it! Microsoft became a success because it gave the users want they wanted - not the other way around!

Well...much of a company's success can be attributed to having the right product at the right time - and the right price point. Microsoft hasn't managed to please everyone (even with Windows 7 erasing the horrible flop of Vista). I applaud your intention to find the "right GPS for you" tregann, and if it doesn't happen to be a Garmin product and you like it better - that's just great. Post what you get, and why you like it better. No matter how disappointed you feel in Garmin at the moment, there's no denying that they are the "Microsoft" of the consumer GPS world. There's nobody else that has the huge market share and the staggering breadth of products that Garmin has. If anything, it's their sheer number of offerings, coupled with their inability to list all of each units' capabilities in an a way this is understandable and comparible to other products that hurts them. The thing is, tregann, that Garmin has plenty of models of GPS units that do have the features you want - you just may not have known to look for that specific difference when you were shopping. I personally would like to see Garmin differentiate their "first time buyer" simplified products from their more advanced user products. Give those models a different name, like "nëwbie"! ![]() I would also like them to publish detailed manuals (for download - I know printed manuals are very expensive) of their GPS units so us enthusiasts could really get to know the full capabilities of the GPS units we are considering purchasing or have purchased. If you find a GPS product that you find superior to a comparibly priced Garmin unit, then I'd truly like to know. Until then, I'll maintain that Garmin, while not perfect by any means, is still one of the best games in town.... |

I not really interested in GPS devices [those other products] I just want a Car Navigator that gives me the info I need as a driver eg: which way to go, what the speed limit is & how fast I'm going - right in front of me on my dash so I can keep my eyes on the road! When people uby a toaster they expect to get cooked bread don't they?

Sure! But do they want the deluxe model, that can accomodate bagels, or the economy model? Not every toaster does everything, and the same goes for GPS units - even car navigation GPS units. You do get the "cooked bread" of your analogy - that's the turn-by-turn navigation capability of your GPS unit. What you're really wanting is bells & whistles (to mix metaphors). Speed indication, routing, 3D buildings, Bluetooth, etc. are all extra features. In my opinion, every road navigation GPS should have speed limit indicators and be able to store routes, but they don't. Generally, the less expensive models have fewer features - it's a company's way of making you choose a more expensive unit. My zumo cost and arm and a leg, but it's waterproof and has all those features.... But it can't accept CityXplorer maps (at least not the cool Enhanced Pedestrian Navigation features of those maps). Things are always changing. I bet in a few years, every Garmin road model will have speed limit indicators standard, and there'll be some other neat feature that only the more expensive units will have.... |
