Help with Editing Phonebook - 1490T

I am new to Garmin products so please pardon my ignorance. I am looking for a software or utility to edit or add to my phonebook. I have the Nuvi 1490T.
The unit does not come with anything. Thanks.

What are you trying to edit, or what are you trying to add to? your phonebook typically resides on your phone and if your phone has the capability, the Nuvi can access the contents of it to make phonecalls. I don't believe even in the newer units - the device replicates the phonebook data on it, that I know of.

Does that help?

The GPS got the phonebook from my blackberry unit, but some of the field did not come out correctly; also there were some duplication on the GPS. This is the reason, I thought I could go into the GPS and edit the data.

Re: Help with Editing Phonebook - 1490T

I don't think the GPS stores any of the data...it should just be reading it from the PIM transfer service on the phone. If you are saving some entries to the GPS that might explain the duplication of some entries...OR you may be using a SIM (GSM) based phone, and the phone may be referencing the SIM or the phone, whereas the PIM service or GPS may be pulling data off both?

Unfortunately it gets a little tricky...as I have two Blackberries myself (8330 and 9630) and they both interact differently with my Garmin's.

My older Nüvi 660 works the same way. It accesses the phonebook data on the cell phone itself. When the device is dropped/deleted or I turn the Bluetooth setting off, nothing remains locally on the Nüvi.

Re: Help with Editing Phonebook - 1490T

Thanks for your comments. I will re-arrange the way I have the phonebook in the Blackberry then. One other question - is there a way to search the phone book in Garmin ? If I want to call a number , I have to scroll all the way - page by page to the name. I had a Sony unit before and can just enter a first letter of the last name. Any workaround this in Garmin?
Thanks.

Just a quick update - I have found a temporary solution. I have added a nemerical prefix to the top four names that I need to call. For example I have added "1, 2, 3 and 4" in front of the addressbook entries. They show up on the Nuvi as the first four entries on screen 1.
