2610 Screen issues

Lost the anti reflection coating on my 2610. Unit works well in anything other than direct and harsh sunlight.

Would anyone have any suggestions as to what I might do to save this display?

Cheers Steve

Re: 2610 Screen issues

Hey Steve, I would try contacting Garmin (seriously) even though the unit is out of warranty - I have heard of some people getting taken care of by Garmin when the display starts to go south.

btw, welcome to the site

Re: 2610 Screen issues

SteverinoB, if you aren't able to get what you need directly from Garmin, you might also look for an third party anti-glare screen protector for your Garmin StreetPilot 2610.

Re: 2610 Screen issues

Dang, there is HumVee with this always helpful linkage thats another alternative. Although I was going to suggest one of these if Garmin is no luck:

ZAGG | invisibleSHIELD | Garmin StreetPilot 2620 Cases, Screen Protectors, Covers, Shields, Skins, Invisible Shield

I have one of these on my Blackberry and I am going to add one to my Zumo shortly, these things are amazing, although not anti-glare they aren't directly reflective. The one from Boxwave (HumVee's link) is truly anti-glare though.

Here is another link to a thread about the anti-glare coating coming off a 2610, the screen delaminated on a BMW Navigator II / Garmin 2620/2610 :

BMW Navigator II Problem - Garmin Solution... - GSClubUK Forum

In that instance the unit was under warranty, but I was more curious if that is what occurred to yours?

Re: 2610 Screen issues

LOL, Max! The Zagg invisibleShield stuff are good products! I've got the screen protector on my zumo 660 - and I hope that they develop the full wrap around protection kit for the z660.

Re: 2610 Screen issues

Yeah I suspect they will at some point, they contacted me about sending in my Z660 for a couple weeks but since I was taking a trip I couldn't do it. I think they found someone else to loan them one so they should be releasing stuff sometime soon....

This is my first posting and was glad to see a problem similar to mine posted.

Just today I noticed the touch screen on my 2610 seems to have a large section in the center that feels like it not attached. Like an air pocket has developed. Is this the beginning of the outer screen coming off and is this just an anti glare screen covering?

I use the unit on my bike and in the car
thanks,
Paul

Re: 2610 Screen issues

Paul, it does sound like the same issue - which this model seems prone to. I'd certainly contact Garmin Support, and see if they'll fix it for free for you. If not, rather than spending $100 to send it in, you might be able to just purchase a $20 screen protector to replace the peeling layer....

Garmin wants $150 to repair it...6 months out of warranty. Obviously a design problem .

Rediculous

Did you call them and ask for a repair cost or try the "so what can you do for me I see this is a common occurance?" path?

Welcome to the site btw PAS
