Street Pilot 2610?

I have a SP 2610 and I want to have all of US on it, what card do I need, I know it needs Compact Flash (what kind can it read? type I,2, 3? ) I heard I need a CF card of at at least 2 GB (to fit the whole v5 maps) are their rectrictions to what it can take? I have the city nav. v5 cd-rom (from 2003?) I downloaded the CN 2008 (and 2009 NT), could I fit either of thoese on a 2 GB card? thanks in Adv. sorry if this isn't very clear

Re: Street Pilot 2610?

bmw525i, you can forget the Type III CF card - that thickness/form factor hasn't been supported in devices for years. Every Compact Flash memory card I've seen in recent years is Type I, but most devices I've seen are designed to accept either Type I or Type II cards.

I don't know for certain what the maximum CF card memory size your Garmin StreePilot 2610 will take, but I'm fairly confident that it can accept 4 GB and under. However, it's my understanding (from some of the very learned forum members here) that the map IMG file is limited to under 2 GB in size - and on older units, there can only be one IMG file. To attempt to write another map file simply erases the previously loaded maps...I ran into this when trying to load Topo U.S. 24K - West and City Navigator North America NT onto my Garmin 76CSx. The solution it so select the portions of the map(s) you want to download to your GPS unit in either MapInstall or MapSource, and make sure the total file size is under 2 GB. I easily got all of City Navigator NA, but had to remove about a third of my highly detailed topographical map from my map build to get under the file limit size. If you don't need to store additional files (tracks, music, etc.), then I imagine a 2 GB CF card is all you'll need.

Re: Street Pilot 2610?

thanks for the info, now I have another question. I have the City Navigator v5 cd-rom,and it won't run on my new computer ( it has vista SP 2). I found the CNNA 2009 non-nt update online which I downloading now, is there is way for me to install version 5 (although it wont run) and update from ver. 5 to 2009? I just need the maps (don't care about extras)

Re: Street Pilot 2610?

Vista...I really hate that OS! The security implementation totally hashes installs of many older applications. Here is a link I found that might help you get the base install onto your computer, so that the update can find it and proceed with the real install. Also, a lot of times in Vista (& occassionally in Windows 7) I found that an application would install okay, but then would not run...however, I was able to then get it to run by right-clicking on the icon and selecting "Run as Administrator." You may have to find the actual exe file to run that on, and not just the desktop shortcut. Good luck!

I upgraded my 2610 to a 2GB CF card so I could load all of my maps into it.
The first card I bought wouldnt work with the unit it was a Kingston 2GB card.

Garmin said to try another brand.

San Disk Ultra II 2GB has worked flawlessly for the past year.
