| Busted 2720 Screen
I just ran across your forum this morning and I'm hoping someone can help me out. My 2720 fell off the dash and landed perfectly on the gearshift screen first. The screen is broken but the GPS still works fine, just nothing touch-related. When it first starts up, a message pops up wanting me to calibrate the touch screen. I just grin and push the map button on the right. It looks like an intelligent amateur can take the case apart and replace the touch screen. Has anyone done this? Where could I buy a screen? Thanks a lot for any help.

You may be able to have Garmin repair it for a fee. See here. Garmin | Out Of Warranty Might be more than you want to spend on it. Hopefully some one else may have already done this type of repair and can give some guidance soon! Welcome to GPSD, btw! |

They'll fix it, flat rate is $180. I guess that's not bad, they're selling for $150 - 200 on Ebay. I paid $108 for it refurb'd on Amazon last year so it just feels wrong to pay $180 for a repair. That's probably the answer, I'll call them today to find out what all they do for a "tune up" while it's there.

Have you looked for a replacement/refurbished unit that would cost less than the cost to repair your 2720? I understand wanting to fix broken gear, but if it costs more then entirely replacing it, then I'd go with the replacement route....

Of course it makes far more sense to replace the unit than to have it repaired, in this case, but the incentive to repair it yourself is higher when the parts cost about $70.

Ouch. The 2720 is a pretty tough unit. It really must have landed just right to break the screen. I've read pretty good reviews about this guy's repair service and his prices and turnaround time seem very reasonable. Can't hurt to drop him a line. | Re: Busted 2720 Screen If it's like a great many of the Nuvi "repairs", Garmin just replaces it with another refurbished unit of the same model. That's not all bad, though, as it really speeds up the turnaround time to the customer and Garmin can fix the one sent in on their own time. Then throw it in the "refurb" bin for future use/replacement.
