| Deleting nuvi 765T Waypoints
Though this is my first post I have "Searched" and "Googled" this issue to death. In this forum I came upon this thread that describes perfectly what I have already done, i.e., update device firmware and delete all User Data. I have a nuvi 765T and it is full of waypoints (hundreds of them). I want to delete all of them before I install other waypoints that occupy this same geographical area. I have followed the instructions for deleting all User Data. I have updated the firmware. I have done everything multiple times and the waypoints persist. What up?, and How do I permanently delete these waypoints? Thanks |

| Re: Deleting nuvi 765T Waypoints Houston, perhaps the master reset procedure only deals with main memory, and you have an SD card installed in your Garmin nüvi 765T? If that's the case, you can follow the procedure listed on page 33 of the Owner's Manual to delete files from your memory card. If that doesn't work, you can always pull the SD and put it into a media reader, then delete the files or refort the entire card.

Could there be a work-around? For example, downloading an overwhelming amount of nothing to cause the Nuvi to overwrite these waypoints, then delete that? | |

| Re: Deleting nuvi 765T Waypoints Houston, try attaching your 765T as a mass storage device (that's standard, according to the manual), and then browsing the 'removable storage device' folders using your computer. Look for gpx or gpi files to delete, like "poi.gpi". Be cautious when deleting files! You can really mess things up if you delete a file needed for the Garmin's normal functioning....

HumVee, I did just as you recommended. I searched the GPSs drive and found the poi.gpi flle and deleted it. I found no other .gpi or .gpx file. I don't have the experience to know what else to look for and I really don't want to delete the wrong file. Thanks for suffering through this with me.

Humvee, then I entered the GPX file in the 765T and deleted all of the .gpx files. Afterwards, the POIs or Waypoints are still there. Houston Last edited by Houston; 06-10-2009 at 7:24 PM. |

LOL...perhaps your 765T is possessed! Wait...do you have POI Loader installed on your computer? If you do, then there's a folder where your custom points of interests are kept...and every time you connect to your computer they get re-uploaded (I think). Look on your computer for this folder, and delete everything in it. It might be called MY POI, and may be located in My Documents (depending where you set it when you installed POI Loader...if you installed POI Loader)! Of course, once you do all that, then you'll still need to clear out your files from the 765T again! |

Wow, Houston! Yes, please do post Garmin's response. I think Garmin Support is pretty responsive. I hope that they have a solution for you - and I can't wait to learn what it is!

Sat in the Garmin queue for the obligatory 35 minutes. Jeff answered and he was stellar. Following is the method to delete residuals in your Favorites file 1. Choose [Tools] on the openning screen. (lower right corner) 2. Scroll down and choose [My Data] 3. Choose [Delete Favorites] 4. Select all 5. Hit [OK] and it clears Favorites It would have been so much easier if they put this in their User's Manual. |

Andy, you can not believe how many similar questions I found while googling. I am a new user, but even if I wasn't I don't think that the solution is that obvious or intuitive given the structure of the User's Manual and Menu Structure of the GPS. If it was, HumVee would have been all over it. I hate to admit it, but the solution is hidden in one sentence in the Owner's Manual, Under Tools, My Data, page 38, between Custom Routes and World Clock. It is not under Managing Files (pages 32 and 33), Clearing all User Data (page 50), or the Index. Garmin could have done better, though kudos to Tech Jeff. Thanks again HumVee for hanging with me through this. And yes, my 765T has no Favorites of any kind in it. The devil has been exorcised. |

And another thing about Garmin Tech Jeff. He was stumped on this for a while and was certain that the only way to delete the Favorites was one at a time. It was only after he found a 765T and did it himself did he realize that there was the global deletion option "Select All". Prior to that he councelled me to delete the hundreds of Favorites one by one.

Well, that goes to show that even the experts can't know everything about every product they support - but I too give kudos to Garmin Tech Jeff for going the extra mile and actually picking up a 765T to figure out the solution for a user!

| Re: Deleting nuvi 765T Waypoints Very true. Just look at the number of models Garmin offers. When you include the fact they provide support for older models as well, their staff must be constantly training for the various feature sets.
