Bye A.
Got mine back from Garmin servis. They sad that the problem is becouse of ilegal maps. They must have done something in FW on Nuvi765 to recognise maps unlocked with gunlocker...

My bad luck. No more freebies for me. I am now buying original maps.

Hope the info helps for other.

Alex74, thank you for the cautionary tale. I'd hate to have to send my Garmin GPS in because it locked up for that reason....

Re: pre-boot mode for Garmin nuvi 765

Update Update Update...

Just received it from Garmin. :-(

"...Dear Kostas,

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the issue with your gmapsupp.img
file and the SD card. Unfortunately we cannot suggest using Pre-boot
mode to resolve any issue or disclose any further information about it...."

Hahahaha well I was not expecting anything else to tell the truth.

Re: pre-boot mode for Garmin nuvi 765

Hi, I'm having exactly the same problem of the eternal restart loop with my nuvi 765. What happened in my case was that my gps was working perfectly fine and in the process of updating the maps of Venezuela (where I'm from) I transferred to the device, by mistake, the new maps along with the north America maps.

What I believe happened is that the internal memory of my GPS is now full and when it is starting up and loading the maps it doesn't have enough memory space to expand the maps so it shuts down. And when connected to a power source it goes into the endless loop that we all know.

I've written several email to garmin asking them for support on how to start de GPS on "pre-boot" mode trough their support page without getting any response. Maybe It's the holydays and they are on vacations. I'll have to wait until next year.

I've also tried all the tips that have been given in this forum but none of them have work for me. I even have an SD card with all Europe maps and it did nothing different.

If anyone knows how to startup this nuvi en pre-boot mode I’ll be much appreciated!!!

Re: pre-boot mode for Garmin nuvi 765

Hi MacPap,

I'm facing the same problem with my Garmin Nuvi, I haven't solved the problem yet. but I managed to make the device to switch to the boot mode for 30 seconds.

Although all the post (and even the manual) suggest that you hold the power slide and the bottom right corner of the device screen, mine worked with the Upper Left corner of the device.

Try to turn off the device by sliding the power button for 6 seconds then release the side and when the Garmin word shows up on the screen press and hold the upper left corner of the screen, the Garmin word will flash and you'll access the boot mode for 30 seconds only.

I've managed to reach this far, hope this helps in anyway.

Cheers

Re: pre-boot mode for Garmin nuvi 765

Hi,

I have managed to messed up my 765 yesterday also.
I can't start the unit with anykind solution described here. I tried with SD solution, but my map that's doing all this is named gmapprom.img and this map name doesn't work on SD.
Did anybody found the way for pre-boot mode yet or any other solution?

Thanks.

Re: pre-boot mode for Garmin nuvi 765

Weeeeeee, I have found a way to access mass storage on the unit in messed up loop mode.
You just connect USB to the unit and wait until green bar shows up. Right after that, you push the button to the left (turn on) for one second and it skips loading maps and then you can access mass storage on PC and delete whatever is messing your unit.
