Hide waypoint labels on 60Csx

Is there an option on my 60Csx where I can hide the waypoint labels? When setting up a route in Mapsource, I had to add waypoints to follow roads which makes the GPS map page really busy.

Also, is there an option in Mapsource to auto-route on roads like DeLorme Topo 7? Not knowing how to do that in Mapsource is the source of problem.

Thx - John

Re: Hide waypoint labels on 60Csx

Hello, highcountry. Welcome to the site.
If the map you are using in MapSource is routable, then it auto-routes. If you are using the "car/motorcycle" setting it uses highways.

I have a feeling I'm not quite getting your question, though. Have you gone through "Edit - Preferences" on MapSource?

You can configure how it shows waypoints, and whether you are travelling by car, bicycle, on foot, etc.

Ask again if this doesn't help.

Re: Hide waypoint labels on 60Csx

Hi dav! The waypoint labels don't show up on Mapsource but do show on my 60CSx. I haven't found a menu option to suppress the labels on my GPS.

The maps that I am using in Mapsource are third party Colorado topo 24K maps which is why I probably cannot auto-route.

thx

Re: Hide waypoint labels on 60Csx

True, Topo maps usually do not support routing.

On the GPS, have you tried setting "level of detail" for the display? That can hide/show icons... maybe it will affect how much of the waypoint name is shown.

Just guessing, though. Oh, and I have a nüvi, I'm not positive the 60Csx has "level of detail".

Re: Hide waypoint labels on 60Csx

Go to the Map page
Hit Menu
Select Map Setup
Go to the Text section.
Change the User Waypoints setting to NONE

The waypoint symbol still shows, but no text.

Page 45 of the manual for pictures.

Re: Hide waypoint labels on 60Csx

Thx Andy, I had found that option and set it to "none" and the labels are still there. I guess that I will have to import a different map.

Re: Hide waypoint labels on 60Csx

That's odd. My 76CSx when set to none just leaves the waypoint icon and no text. Are you sure it was set to none at the particular zoom level? Try zooming in/out and see if the text disappears.

Re: Hide waypoint labels on 60Csx

Just gave it a try again as you suggested and it still shows the labels. I guess that the issue is associated with using a third party map.

Thx for the advice - - John

Frederic, no luck, still have the annoying labels. I will have to try a different map program as my problem is on a third party map of Colorado.

Re: Hide waypoint labels on 60Csx

hello Highcountry,
i have tried both with routes made with Mapsource and routes i got from the net: same problem; it seems that the settings (as defined on page 45 of the manual) to show/hide points and define the size of the text labels are completely ignored for waypoints in routes .
What is more strange is that the waypoints i have created with Mapsource are all defined as 'symbol' (properties of the waypoint) and not 'symbol and text'
i hope this can help, and i continue to dig as this is for me a very annoying problem (sometimes it is absolutely impossible to see anything on the map, except these labels)

Re: Hide waypoint labels on 60Csx

Frederic, those pesky little waypoints make my routes almost unreadable as well. I have created some routes for old mining roads in Colorado with my third party 24K topo maps therefore not having the auto-route function operative which would help with my problem. If you find a solution, please advise.

Re: Hide waypoint labels on 60Csx

John,
I just got an answer from Garmin support team. They have investigated this problem and found no solution ... They said they have transmitted the case to 'the engineers'. So it seems that now we have to look for the next (next next ...) release. Certainly not before my trip to Utah in may.

Thx Frédéric, I am glad to know that I am not a total GPS neophyte. Hopefully, we will see a fix soon.

Hi all, first time poster.

Fast forward to June 2010, reply from Garmin:

"The website was correct. [I referred to this post.] This is a known issue, and it has not been corrected yet. Hopefully it will be changed soon. At this time I am unaware of a workaround for this."

Has anyone out there found a suitable workaround? Using point-to-point routing with a lot of route vias makes it impossible to see the route. I know I could use fewer via points - but the road is remote and has a lot of curves.
