Garmin Nuvi 760 Satellite & Signal Strength Screen

I searched but failed to find any information about this.

If you press and hold on the signal strength icon, the following screen appears. See attachment. [I discovered this from another website]

Presumably, the crescent shaped icon is the moon, and the asterisk is the sun.

Please can anybody explain what the meaning of the object that the arrow is pointing to?
Note: I added the arrow.

Please note there are numerous other undocumented screens available on the 760.

That is "you" so you know where those other icons are in relationship to you.

We do have a thread on this site that discusses "Easter Eggs" (undocumented screens / actions) - but it has slid into history. Being so device dependent it was hard to keep it properly updated.

Re: Garmin Nuvi 760 Satellite & Signal Strength Screen

dav,
Two points:
a) Searching for 'Easter Eggs' or 'undocumented screens', revealed only the two newest posts which are still current, the older posts to which you refer seem to have gone.

b) Your explanation makes sense, except it doesn't seem to tie-in with what I see on the nuvi. What I mean, is that the circle with the red centre dot moves around on the 760 Satellite & Signal Strength Screen, largely as the direction of travel changes. Which doesn't seem to make sense, if the direction of travel is 'up'. But it might make sense if North is 'up'.

PS Thanks for the reply.

Re: Garmin Nuvi 760 Satellite & Signal Strength Screen

TotallyLost, should I admit I was guessing? I have not actually seen any documentation on what those are.

The red one could actually be "bearing", which, since I only look at it while I'm standing still, would cause it to jump around as the satellite signal fluctuates.

And I'm pretty sure this display is always "North Up". Sun and Moon are always in the lower half these days.

==============================

Search has a hard time finding them because we were doing it one screen at a time, and not calling them Easter Eggs, yet.

Try this thread for more info: Audio Test Page on a Nuvi 750

It is indeed your direction of travel. The outer circle is your horizon and the inner circle is 45 degree elevation. North is up and the icons represent the satellites above and around you. I proved this with help from J-Track 3D which shows the relative position of many satellites in real time.

Re: Garmin Nuvi 760 Satellite & Signal Strength Screen

Cool! Thanks for the post. J-Track 3D looks interesting. Garmin appears a little better than others when it comes to putting out documentation. The presentation is all nicely done, but it tends to be really light on content. I trully wish that Garmin offered up in-depth manuals for their equipment...or even the training guides they use to train their tech support!
