garmin nuvi 350 manual routeing

Hi
I am new to this forum. The reason I ended up here is to try to receive info about my garmin nuvi 350. I used to own a garmin 2610 and I could plan a trip on mapsource-download it to the 2610 and I could follow the route which I had pre-planned. Is there any way I can do something along the same lines with the nuvi. When I take a vacation I don't want to take all the magor roads. I would like to take my time and travel the small senic roads. How can I get the nuvi 350 to do this for me. Thanks fiero1988gt
PS I can't use the garmin 2610 anymore because the touch screen won't work. After paying $800 for the 2610 and it only lasting two years I don't want to spend major dollars on a unit again.

Re: garmin nuvi 350 manual routeing

Hi, welcome to the site!

Unfortunately there is no easy way to do this. Actually that feature is nearly gone from today's devices. The nice thing about the 2610 was the fact that it wouldn't recalc a route you uploaded to it. I can't think of a single Garmin that does this now. The Nuvi 350 doesn't support pre-planned routes, it's a point to point device. Unless you create custom POIs for your entire route and then while navigating you have to tell it to go to each one of them.

There are newer Nuvi's that support routes. Most handheld mapping devices do as well. However not in the same way as the 2610. You can upload a route but they re-calc it when you start navigating, not always exactly the same as in Mapsource. My 76CSx does this. I find I have to put in a ton of VIA points to get Mapsource and the 76CSx's routing to agree and follow the same routing.

Andy
Thanks for your reply. I know what you are saying because When I was on a trip this summer I only entered one city at a time and then when I came to that city I entered the next closest town or city using a paper map to locate them. Even after doing this It picks either shortest of fastest route epending how it is set up. Very seldom would it be the roads I wanted to travel. It would recalculate but at the next intersection it wants you on another route again.

I was wondering is it possible with mapsource to put the route on the SD card and then select the pre-planned map?

I know the zumo will do what I want but now back to big dollars for the unit again. I don't want to spend big dollars again after my last purchase only lasting two years. Adding insult I had just bought the new maps for it a couple of months before the touch screen failed. Thanks fiero1988gt

The 350 doesn't support routes so even if you had them on the SD card, it wouldn't know what to do with them. Maybe you could sell the 350 and find another that would support routes.
