nuvi 750 - Manage audio output switching between navagation and mp3/music tasks

Hi folks

New to the GPS world, just picked-up a nuvi 750.
So far, just testing on local known routes / destination trips. Getting acquainted with it's strengths and weaknesses .... before I go on long haul trips. So far about the only real issue is it's preference to select "non-freeway" routing. Have tried numerous settings, including "disabling avoidance", but as most users have reported, it's the way it works. A question I can not find in manual or forums is the following .. involves playing music / mp3's (stored on SD card) while driving a destination route. Can nuvi 750 manage navigation audio output AND mp3 audio output automatically? Basically will it mute/pause mp3 audio out when nuvi is issuing navigation audio information ... then return to mp3 audio output?

Thanks

When you are navigating, it should mute/pause the mp3 audio as it gives you voice guidance. That's the way most of the Nuvi's work.

Thank you for the post, most appreciated.
Will load some mp3's/SD card and give it a "play".

Re: nuvi 750 - Manage audio output switching between navagation and mp3/music tasks

I never had a problem with my 750 avoiding freeways. The only time this happened it finally dawned on me I had used the Nuvi in pedestrian mode and had not switched it back to vehicle mode. I kept wondering why a 30 min drive kept showing over an hour of time. Problem with getting older, remembering what you have done before.

Re: nuvi 750 - Manage audio output switching between navagation and mp3/music tasks

I use my nüvi 750 specifically to have MP3s playing in my older car without a CD player. Yes, once in a while I use the navigation, too.

It works great at muting MP3s while giving voice directions.

Fortunately, it allows you to set the volume of each separately, because they are not equal and it helps to "fine tune" them not to knock your socks off when the voice breaks in!

Also, you do need to find an empty FM channel - very difficult in urban centers. And as you go from town to town for long haul trips you will need to switch the FM channel.

Do not attempt this while driving!

Your passenger can do it while driving, though. Very useful things, sometimes, passengers...

Re: nuvi 750 - Manage audio output switching between navagation and mp3/music tasks

Thank you folks, you have been very helpful. Have a 8x speaker stereo system in car (factory) which includes a audio-in jack. I use this interface for my mp3 player ( keep it current with favorite tunes/playlist). I tried FM link for nuvi/radio and it works good, but after a 75 mile plus one way drive, I generally start getting cross channel. I've plugged nuvi into the audio-in jack and it works great (navigation only use), always crystal clear. With nuvi being capable of managing SD flash/mp3/music simultaneously, I'm good to go.

Living in the snow belt, traveling on freeway (Winter months) is always safer, as they are continually plowed/salted. I live less than 2 minutes North of the freeway. Every time I'm traveling home and North of the freeway, it will route me on every blacktop road running parallel to freeway. Naturally I continue to drive south and when I'm within a mile of the freeway, only then will it recalculate new route using freeway. NOT a safe solution when winter traveling in unfamiliar areas during a blizzard at 2:00 AM. But what I will commend nuvi, it has amazingly fast new route calculations.

Re: nuvi 750 - Manage audio output switching between navagation and mp3/music tasks

One thing that might help for your specific situation is to add two "favorites" waypoints. One for each direction of travel on that freeway.

Then when you tell it to take you somewhere, you can add that waypoint to the route and it will take you to the freeway first. And, most likely, stay on the freeway once it gets you there.

Or just ignore the initial instructions. Mine has no idea how to get out of my neighborhood, so I drive over a mile before it starts giving decent directions.

I had the same thoughts. Had a humorous drive today. When exiting a parking lot 30 miles from my house, nuvi issued a right turn, travel half mile and another right turn ... this county road travels through 3 small towns, but puts me 1 block south of my home. Instead, I turned left, traveled 1 mile, took another left and got on the freeway. Their are 5 exits on freeway before my house and nuvi recalulated 5 times suggesting I get off the freeway every time .... I did take the last one, which naturally was my preferred exit. Must say, nuvi and my wife have a LOT in common!!!
