| Introduction and 60CSx Backlight Question
Hi everyone, my name is Jamie. I am from North Dakota, amd love the outdoors. My handle is DTR, for Double Trouble Racing, as I also do a lot of snowmobile drag racing. I recently purchased a Garmin 60Csx to log my travels in the mountains and backcountry while snowmobiling. My question is, is there a way to turn the backlight on automatically upon start-up? Sometime I have the unit of, its pitch-dark outside, and there is alterior noise preventing me from hearing the subtle "ding" the unit makes. With everything so dark, its hard to tell if the unit is on or not. Thanks, DTR |

Hey DTR! ![]() I don't have a 60, but the 76CSx I have should be very similar. It should remember the last setting for the backlight. So if you shut it off with it turned on, next time it should be on. The backlight will cut down the battery life. |

I have a 60CSx also and I'm surprised because I thought it would be the same as Andy's 76CSx in all but form but no. The backlight doesn't remember its on state when you power it off and back on again. You have to hit the power button again briefly to bring the backlight on. Maybe there will be a software update that brings the units in sync. 60CSx is on 3.70 atm Andy, what is the 76CSx currently on? *EDIT* I see the latest is 3.70 also, I'm getting more convinced that these units are identical under the shell. Are you using 3.70 Andy? -Andy |

Well I just checked mine again and it's not remembering the backlight status just the same as the 60CSx. I'm running 3.70. They must have changed it a while back because I remember mine doing this at some point. Maybe it was the 76S.

I am having the same issue with my Vista HCx. You always have to tap the power key to bring the light up to its brightes setting. Its a pain!

| Re: Introduction and 60CSx Backlight Question
Stumbled on this thread when trying to figure out why the backlight on my 60CSx does not come on upon power-up. I believe it used to. Now the default setting is zero and I have to go to setup\display\backlight-level each time I power-up to reset the level. Reading here I learned to hit the On button once to bring up the light, but it wasn't always like this. Anyone know how to fix this? ![]() MPM |

DTR, I'm running the latest 4.0 firmware version and my backlight has never automatically come on when powered up. What's so hard about holding the power button down (mine turns on in about two seconds) and then just tapping the power button again? The backlight comes on immediately to the previously set intermediate setting and you don't even have to wait for it to power up completely. I'm quite sure this is easily done "in the dark". The way to have the backlight come on automatically is to run it on external power. |

My backlight also needs the extra press of the power button to come on. It doesn't save the previous intermediate level but comes on at about 50% every time. This is fine with me since this is OK for dim light and bright light will need the 100%. At least the time-on seems to stay put where it is set. I increased mine from 15 sec. to 30 sec. and since it will auto-shutoff, I guess a minute wouldn't hurt. - - - Buck99 | |
