| Newbie with a Garmin 260 question
Hello, I live in Toronto, Canada and purchased the 260. I tried to call Garmin and the retailer I bought my GPS from, but both were not helpful. While driving on the highway, I could be going for 3o minutes or 2 hours without exiting. My Garmin keeps reminding me where I am and where to stay, I would say every 10 minutes, if not less. This is extremely annoying. If I were to drive to Buffalo, for example and not exiting for awhile, this GPS would drive me insane. Is there anyone else with this problem? I just want to know if it's because of the model I have, or do I need to move up to the 300 series for it to stop repeating itself? The Garmin rep said to download the software (free) to see if that would help, but that would mean I have to register my product. Futureshop, where I bought it from said to not register, because I wouldn't be able to return the product. I still have a few weeks left. Hope someone here can help out. TIA! |

My Nuvi 660 does something similar. At every interchange it gives you guidance, even when you are not changing roads. It doesn't do this every 10 minutes though. That would bother me as well. I use the 660 with the sound muted most of the time now. You can find the 3.40 firmware for the 260 at this site. |

Thanks for the quick reply. If you mute the sound, do you have a quick button to do that on your model? Since I have a lower end model, I would have to go throught the settings to lower the volume, no mute button is included. That would be a bigger distraction, since I'd have to take my eyes off the road to enter the settings. Thanks for the link!

I had a Nuvi 200W for a short period of time, and it had a mute option on the Volume screen. I can't imagine the 260 would be missing that?

I just double checked and you are right. There is a small check box for mute. I thought it would be on the screen somewhere while giving directions. I thought it might be hard to touch the screen when driving, go to tools, volume and then mute.
