Locked Nuvi 200

Hopefully this is the right place. I've been searching high and low for answers to some pretty difficult questions.
About a year ago b4 I moved from Florida a friend brought me a Nuvi 200. My son was playing with it and put a lock code on it. I didnt bother with it because I barely used it. About three months ago I moved to Philadelphia and I need the Nuvi now more than ever. I called Garmin and they told me that theres no way that I can resolve my problem because I don't have the original reciept nor do I know where my son was at the time he set the code. Can any one give me an answer to my problem?

Did they explain it starts okay if turned on where the lock was set?

If your son locked it at your previous home, you'll either need to go there or contact the new owners and see if they will do it for you.

But you either need the lock code or need to start it from that location. No other options that I know of.

Yep, that's normal, it's the theft protection. No way of unlocking it except the way dav mentioned.

I agree with dav. However, did you ever register the unit on mygarmin? (feature of garmin.com for owner registration).
You shouldn't need the receipt for that, just the little yellow piece of paper that gives your unit's map keys (these are specifically generated for your GPS and are included with the box on purchase IIRC).
That should be proof enough that you're the rightful owner even without a receipt.
