Newbie Question

Hi there guys...
I have a quick question and I hope someone can help me out. I have had an older Streetpilot Colormap for quite sometime now but I have never bothered to update the maps because it did not come with the connector. Well I pieced one together and I am not ready to start updating it. What I am looking for is a topo map for out here in Pittsburgh, Pa. It is mainly going to be used for hiking, etc... So what I have found is that 24k seems to be the best, well only thing that I can use. Is this correct? Also, I only have a 32 MB card in it. Will this be enough space to load at least western Pa.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Guys
C

Re: Newbie Question

Streetpilot, being older, may be more flexible than newer units. But, Garmin only offers 1:100,000 topo maps. Only a few Nat'l Parks are offered at higher res.

As far as the card size, I do not know. Someone else with experience with partial maps will have that info for you soon.

Re: Newbie Question

Here is a screenshot of Topo 2008 with part of the state selected (the pink highlighted parts). Those parts total about 32 mb.

Keep in mind these are only 1:100,000 Topo maps. I imagine if you ever could find 1:24 maps you'll need even more space.

to the site, btw!

Re: Newbie Question

Thanks guys. The size of map is really all I am looking for. As long as I can zoom in a bit and get an idea of where I am at for hiking etc I should be in good shape. Thanks!
