Software update for Nuvi 650

This is the third different place I've posted this w.o an answer. Hopefully, someone here can assist.....

On Saturday, I upgraded the software on my 650. Now, when in navigation mode, the green information bar does not use control cities or the word Exit when giving information. For example, I used to receive information that said: "2 mi: Exit 20, Rt 85, Hopkinton, Milford" Now I get "2 mi, 20: rt 85"

Also, when driving for extended periods, on a road w. no turn off or exit, I used to get something like "Driving south on Main Street" Now, regardless of how far away the next turn is, it alerts me to it. It could be 2 miles away, and it will still say "High St ahead"

Is this a function of the new software, or do I have a featured disabled somewhere?

This is crazy... how can this go unanswered for three days in 3 different locations? Does ANYONE have any suggestions?

Have you contacted Garmin support?

I have tried to submit an email but every time I do, I get "page cant be displayed" I will try calling them

Try resetting it if you haven't already contacted Garmin's support.

I had tried resetting it 4 times. No dice.....

I spoke w. Garmin support today. Turns out thats an issue that they know about, but didnt have a resolution for. The agent emailed me a link to a 3rd party website w. a list of all the available software versions. I rolled the unit back to version 4.20, and the issue went away. The downfall was that I lost all my favorites, but it's working anyway

If I am feeling adventurous later, I may try to go back to 4.5 to see what happens, but I also might just let sleeping dogs lie

They are probably working on a newer firmware to correct the issue. I've found other bugs in some of their firmware that were corrected in the next release, which was within a month or 2.

what firmware was the one you upgrades to?

I upgraded to version 4.5, but then realized I had an issue. I rolled back to 4.2, and thought I resolved the problem, but when I got on the highway today, I got a message "9 ahead" 18 miles before the exit. I'm going to have to roll back to 4.0 and deal w. the one frame per second refresh.

Is there a difference between firmware and software?
