Mapsource does not recognize the GPS

I have installed Mapsource on my PC (version 5.4 Topo Canada V2) and have a route on my Garmin GPSmap 60CSx that I would like to import onto my maps on the computer. I go to Setup - interface on the gps and chose Garmin - then chose USB mass Storage. The computer recognizes that the GPS is connected and has a folder that pops up that says Garmin. The MapSource software though does not seem to find the GPS. I cannot get any communication between the two. Any ideas?

Re: Mapsource does not recognize the GPS

Hi Alan. Welcome to the site!

If think the 60CSx functions the same as a 76CSx. The trick is to not set it as USB Mass Storage.

Just plug the 60CSx USB cable in, load Mapsource, then hit the button to Receive from Device. This time when the box comes up and it lists the 60CSx, you should see it showing the serial number instead of a drive letter.

My 76CSx also doesn't work in Mapsource if I choose USB Mass Storage on the device.

So to transfer tracks, waypoints, routes from the 60CSx to Mapsource, don't use the mass storage mode.

If you have the 60CSx set to record the tracklog to the memory card, you'll need to turn on the USB mass storage mode to read the GPX track files it creates with this feature.
