Colorado 400t and Japan Topographic maps

I am planning a skiing trip to Japan this winter and am looking for a GPS. I think I want the Garmin Colorado 400t because I can use it both on the mountain and in town.

I see that Garmin offers the city maps for Japan, but not the topographical ones. As we will be back country skiing, topographic maps are a must. Is there another source that provides these maps that are compatible with the Colorado 400t?

Does the 400t offer a "elevation tracker" feature, that is, can it track total elevation gain and loss throughout the day?

Is there a better GPS for what I'm looking to do?

Thanks for the help.
