Purchased City Nav 08 NT- Will 09 Be Free?

I tried a search but no cigar.

So I have a new 60csx and a fresh purchased City Nav 2008 NT North America. I plan to install this week.

I hear the 2009 is free if you recently purchased 2008. Is this true.
If so will the updater see this and auto prompt me to upgrade?
What is the scenerio?

Also....... I know it's only one copy per GPS but can I load the mapsource on two PC's?

When you register on MyGarmin it will tell you how much it will cost to upgrade to '09. It uses a sliding scale, and if you purchased retail recently enough, you do get the upgrade free.

Yes, you can run Mapsource on as many PC's as you want. Each version of Mapsource will need to know your license keys, and will only transfer map info to the GPS units for which the licenses match.

Just out of curiosity, why did you buy a 2008 map if the 2009 was available? I think that the 2009 update is only free if buy a GPS with the older map preinstalled. If that's the case then you should be eligible for the update, otherwise, I don't know for sure, but I doubt it.

Good question. Actually if you look on Garmin's Webb site it says - MapSource City Navigator North America NT - Garmin Part Number: 010-10816-00.

There is no 2008 or 2009 designation. So it who knows. When I install it I'll find out and post the results one way or the other. The DVD arrives tomorrow.

Maybe the 2008 edition was cheaper? Would be a funny loophole if they allowed a free upgrade from a less expensive product.
