Message saying 'No roads in your area' or something close to that

We are traveling with two Garmin 60CSx units but when trying to plan a route are having problems. We will get a message to the effect of the subject line....'no roads in your area'. There are roads in the area, including paved state routes (we are in Colorado). The only routes we can plan are if we include only 'major' US highways. Are we doing something wrong? Why won't it allow us to use routes that we can see on the mapping such as county roads, etc.?

Hi Pats4x4! to the site!

Are you using the basemap included on the 60CSx or do you have City Navigator?

With the basemap, even though it displays minor roads, it can only give you turn-by-turn directions on the major highways. You need City Navigator map data to have it give you full routing on all roads visible in the map display.

Thanks, that's probably the problem. I'm just using the base map.

Macmall or antonline have the best price on the city navigator right now.

Thanks for the info. I checked with the friend I'm traveling with and we aren't using the 'base' maps like I stated earlier. We are using Map Source top maps. But I'm guessing the answer to my question remains the same. If I purchase city navigator with those maps overlay the topo maps?

You can load both City Nav and Topo on the 60CSx. You just have to toggle which map you want to view in the settings. I haven't had Topo on my 76CSx in a while but I think it doesn't have any route-able roads.
