City Navigator versions

I bought a 76CSx with Topo maps. Now I want to get City Navigator. I see it listed on several sites for different prices. On one site it's listed as for Street Pilot and a few others, but my 76CSx is not listed. Are there different versions of the software depending on the GPS or just one type?

This may be a dumb question but I'm new at this stuff. Thanks for any help.

Re: City Navigator versions

Not a dumb question, there are, indeed, two versions: NT and non-NT.

They do not work on the same units.

Unfortunately, I do not know which is appropriate for the 76Csx.

Others will be along soon to steer you to the correct one.

okay, Garmin says you want the NT version. See this page: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?...ab=gpsmap76csx

Re: City Navigator versions

The 76CSx supports both the NT and non-NT versions. The NT is compressed so it takes up less space, which isn't a big issue if you put in a good size memory card.

I have the NT version in my 76CSx. Works perfect!

Re: City Navigator versions

Help. Have been a registered owner of 60C and loved it. And have purchased all of the map updates. BUT, yesterday I purchased the 60Cx and cannot load any software. [1] Thought that each Garmin owner could have two personal units? [2] One reason for upgrading was that GPS City Canada sold me the NA 2009 NT update ... and it will not work on 60C.

So my question is how the heck to I get it unlocked to run on the new 60Cx which can handle it? Help

Re: City Navigator versions

Did you register the 60cx on Garmin.com yet? if so - you'll need to get an unlock code from there first.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the replies. Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner, but I've been away from the computer for 2 weeks now.

The NT versions are only good for a single unlock code, ie one device.

Re: City Navigator versions

The City Nav North America NT uses 1 GB of my 2 GB SD Card in my 60CSX.
I wonder if the hole of Topo would get on the remaining 1GB?

Re: City Navigator versions

I also have the SD card; however, not likely to experiment. At $90, a bit too expensive for experimenting. And how would you 'command' the 60Cx to read the topo data instead of NT? They warn about loading data to the SD wiping out existing data. I would really like to 'write protect' the card. What I plan to try soon is simply burning some Topo grids to a separate SD card, now cheap, and inserting it when needed. Will let you know if it works.

Re: City Navigator versions

Have not yet received my DVD version yet. There has been a bit of confusion with the Canadian supplier. My understanding is the the main feature of NT is significant data compression. When the disk arrives, will have to try load an SD ..... probably would have been cheaper than getting the Garmin SD first. Problem was that the DVD was not available at that time.

There is a menu option to toggle which mapset you are viewing.

If you have City Nav loaded on the micro-SD and then load Topo, it will overrite City Nav. You have to select both mapsets in Mapsource before uploading if you want to have both maps on once memory card.

Re: City Navigator versions

That was another question I was about to ask, about Topo and Nav on one card. I just have the southeast part of Topo loaded on a 512 mb card now. I'm gonna buy City Navigator soon (if I can figure out the best place and know which year it is). I've never been out of the southeast and may never need to. Will the southeast portion of Topo and Navigator fit on a single 1 gig card?

Re: City Navigator versions

City Nav (with only a few maps of your area) and Topo (the same) would fly on a 1gb card. But as I've said to others - the extra memory is cheaper than the one time you really wished you had both sets of maps. I've done this before, and now I have 2 and 4gb in my devices, mostly for this purpose

Re: City Navigator versions

As I understand you, it is possible to load data from NT North American and Topo Canada on the same 4 gb card? My Navigator NA NT is currently being shipped, so planning ahead. TOPO Canada is an open map, with no unlock necessary .... that I had for the 60C. Would be useful when cycling rail trails, to switch back and forth, because TOPO shows most of the abandoned railway lines ... now trails. If only there was a single USA TOPO available
