Garmin Oregon series...touchscreen, waterproof...hmm.

So it looks like buy.com has updated their framework with the new Garmin Oregon series, which gives us an idea of the new units specification and features/differences.

Initially they all appear to be the same feature and map designators as their Garmin Colorado Series , with the exception of some units packing a global basemap only.

For the first unit, its the GARMIN OREGON 200

Ok I have all the buy.com links for the new Oregon units, looks like there will be at least 5 units in all.
The designations will share the same as the feature classes for the Colorados:
Oregon 200, Oregon 300, Oregon 400c, Oregon 400i, Oregon 400t.

So looking at the sizing for these units, it appears they will be very closely placed to the Vista series units in terms of Sizing:

Garmin eTrex Vista HCx:

  • Display size, WxH: 1.3" x 1.7"
  • Display resolution, WxH: 176 x 220 pixels
Garmin Oregon series:

Although it has an "automotive" setting, I don't see support for "City Navigator NT"... or am I just missing it?

I don't know. The screen shots I've seen look like a Nuvi type interface. If the automotive design team got to design the interface, I think they are ruining it. I hope it still has all the features that are standard on handheld models. And not the limited features of the Nuvi line.
