| Hello & Route Planning ? Nuvi 200w
Hello all. New to site and GPS's and I need some info. I just bought a Garmin nuvi 200w, and was wondering if there was a way to plot a specific route into it. I'm taking a trip at the end of the month, and would like to plot my own course, but the nuvi 200w does not seem to support this feature. As I'll be on the motorcycle, I don't want it to just send me down the interstate, but if I specifically tell it to avoid highways, it's not gonna send me the way I want. So, any way to plan my own route on the 200's? |

Unfortunately, with the 200W, you fall into the same category as this person with a 660. ![]() Garmin 660 Route Planning For motorcycle use, you may want to look into the Zumo 450/550 since they are weatherproof.

Thanks. Guess my best solution (for the time being) would be to set up multiple "favorites" and move from point-to-point that way. Possibly setting a POI as I go. Not the ideal solution, but at least it's a work-around! As for the bike thing, I'm actually planning on either using a RAM mount "AquaBox" or keeping it in the water proof map pocket of my tank bag. I'm open to other suggestions though (short of buying a new unit - not in the budget at this time), for routing or weather protection. |

RE: Budget: How recently did you purchase the 200W? If you can return it, another option could be the StreetPilot 2720. Weatherproof, supports routes, and costs less than the 200W these days. It's discontinued, but you can get refurbs for less than $200. I had one up until last week that I used on all my motorcycle trips.

Bought on Saturday, but I've already opened it up, updated to the 2009 maps, etc.. Could probably return it to Wally World, but not sure. Where would I buy a refurbed StreetPilot 2720? |

Wal-Mart has a 15 day return policy on their GPS units. I know, because I bought a 200W a couple weeks ago and returned it, then went out and got a 780. ![]() For the 2720: Streetpilot 2720, GPS Devices, Parts Accessories items on eBay.com=

| Re: Hello & Route Planning ? Nuvi 200w The other option is to use one of several applications (I use Garmin's MapSource) that will convert the waypoint file in to a .gpx file type. That way it can be loaded into the unit as custom POI using Garmin's POI Loader. I find it easier to manage my various trip routes that way. I don't like loading a lot of points into the favorites list, then having to delete them one at a time when the trip is over. Installing them as custom POI's means that when I'm done with the trip, I just move the trip .gpx file out of my POI loading folder on my PC and save it in a backup POI folder, then when I next update my custom POI"s the trip is gone. I've found it to be simple solution for units like ours which don't support routes.
