Garmin Map Software Licensing Question

Just wondering about the options with Garmin's City Navigator as to how many computers you can run it on and if you have two GPSMAP 60csx units can you load to both? Seems nuts to buy two handhelds and two copies.

Re: Garmin Map Software Licensing Question

It's one per unit now. Not so long ago they allowed one copy of the map data to be used on up to two units, but changed it.

Re: Garmin Map Software Licensing Question

I think GPSCity had it for about $65 shipped. Or, if you want it quick, you can buy and download the update direct from Garmin through my.garmin.com.

Re: Garmin Map Software Licensing Question

Thanks Again,

Please forgive my lack of understanding but is the City Navigator "Update" DVD what I need for a new 60csx?
The "update" tag has the best prices.

Re: Garmin Map Software Licensing Question

Supposedly if you by non-NT maps, you can get 2 unlock codes. I think the 60CSx is just like it's cousin, the 76CSx, which can use either NT or non-NT maps. I don't know if Garmin is updating the non-NT maps though. Their website doesn't mention what version the non-NT City Nav is. Might be worth a phone call. Buying the uncompressed (non-NT) version might be cheaper than having to buy 2 versions of the NT version if you need to load it on 2 devices.

This was from an email I received from Garmin's tech support on May 23 of this year.

The process of unlocking maps changed last year, to one unlock code per map per unit. The older units, which had Non-NT mapping had the ability to add a second unlock, but the newer, NT versions, do not. Garmin pays a royalty fee on each copy of the map, and therefore, must also charge for them.

Unless the 60CSx you have came with City Nav already installed (I don't think it does), you need the full version, not the upgrade.

Re: Garmin Map Software Licensing Question

Well...... one more.

I have an old Garmin V Deluxe I don't use that came with Mapsource America. Can a guy migrate it to the 60csx or upgrade it with the City Navigator Update?

Heh! Just trying to be cheap!

Re: Garmin Map Software Licensing Question

You can load Mapsource America on the 60CSx, but it won't be able to give your turn-by-turn directions once you leave the basemap. You need City Nav to get the turn-by-turn functioning.

Actually there is one other way. I'm not sure if it would work with that version of Mapsource, but it might be worth a try. It's a program called Metrowizz.

GeoDude.NL - Our Products Overview

If the version of Mapsource you have contains the turn-by-turn routing info, Metrowizz might be able option to get it to load that data onto the 60CSx.

When you create a route in Mapsource, does it follow the roads or show straight line, as the crow flies?

I tested it with an old version of Mapsource Metroguide and it worked.

Re: Garmin Map Software Licensing Question

OK, I found it for 76.99 at MacMall.
It was a rough hunt to get under $90.00. It seems like some sites will trick you into the Update DVD. You gotta look carefully.

Thanks Guys.
