| A real person checks your map update requests. Wow.
My Garmin 650 with 2009 maps uploaded tried to lead me on a little street that doesn't exist to cross railroad tracks. I took a snapshot of where I was talking about, and at the my.garmin.com site, uploaded my request for them to correct the map for next time. Wow, a real person emailed me back to verify! They ask for some kind of verification if possible, of the change you're proposing. That's fair. To help with verifying, I just discovered that newer feature on Google Maps where you can view at "Street View." Is that cool or what? If you don't know what I'm talking about, in Google Maps, type in an address. When it finds it, does a little yellow man figure show up at your location? Is there a thumbnail picture of where you are? Are the streets outlined in blue? If so, go to Street View and view up and down the street, rotating 360 degrees. When I view my house, it shows my trash can at the end of the driveway (meaning it was taken on a Friday) and newspapers in the lawn. I'm amazed! I'll use this next time I have to email Garmin with a map update. |

That's a great idea for verifying map data! Street view is pretty neat. They have really dropped the photo resolution though. The camera they use must not be very high res any more. They had started using a van with a dome on the roof and now use small sedan type cars with a funny looking contraption strapped to the top. I just happened to be in my garage when they drove by my house. They blurred the picture enough that you can't see me. The first photos they were doing when they started Street View were much higher resolution. |

We just got a new HWY put in in little town but the HWY13 now runs 300 ft to the west and my unit thinks I'm driving in a feild when I'm on it. It has a new offramp and all so it's a four lane all the way from spfd to KC. The 2008 maps don't show it but the State HWY map had it out before the thing was done? What gives? Where does Garmin get it's info from? I know it's a little community and all but I am about ready to let them know. I'd like to know if it's been fixed with 2009 if anybody can look up HWY 54 and 13 in Collins, Missouri. If you google map it you can see the dirt outline of where the new HWY is going. .
