Garmin nuvi 650 won't start up and can't connect to PC

When I plug in my Garmin to my PC with my USB cable, I'd always be careful to "stop" the device before unplugging. But I just unplugged it one time. Now when I try to plug it back in, it just shows "Loading maps..." and no folders or drive letters pop up for me to access the Garmin memory or the SD card via my USB.
Also, I can't start up the Garmin all the way. It just comes to the screen that says "Loading maps" briefly and blacks out. I believe it's charged up okay. If I hold in the on/off button when it's on "loading maps..." it says "pre-boot mode" briefly, then shuts off.
Help!

I do not know what is happening with your unit, but figure I should let you know it is probably not related to having unplugged it.

I never stop my 750, and plug it in and remove it from the USB several times whenever I am using the PC. Download tracks, then unplug so I can remove the tracks from the GPS. Then plug it back in so it can charge while I work on a new route in Mapsource, then transfer the route to the GPS. Then unplug it and fire it up to modify the route on the unit.

It has never objected to simply plugging it in to the USB cable and unplugging it by simply pulling the cable out.

Re: Garmin nuvi 650 won't start up and can't connect to PC

Strange thing...my Garmin finally did finish booting up. I'm not sure what happened other than being patient and waiting for it to go beyond "Loading maps" which must have been about 10-15 minutes.
But if anyone can enlighten me why this happened so I can prevent it from happening again, that'd be great.
Thanks.

I am glad to hear it finished booting for you

Were you loading new maps or data onto it the last time you used it (prior to the unplug?).

I was deleting or copying files to my SD card, not the Garmin memory, just before unplugging.
