Garmin USA Topo Vs National Geographic Topo

I'm into mountaineering and back packing and have a Garmin HPX Vista that I down load USGS quad maps when I go backcountry. I purchased Garmin Topo Maps Western United States National Parks Topo. Ok product.

Now I see Garmin has a software for the entire USA Topos based on the USGS quads 1:24,000 scale. I also see National Geographic has the same product out but it is only available by state. They both price out the same.

So I'm asking myself what is the difference? Natn'l Geo will give me only a state by USGS quads while Garmin will give me the entire USA by USGS quads.

Anybody out there have any experience with the two products and their recommendation. When I go backcountry I go solo so I'm looking for hardcore products as in survival.

Re: Garmin USA Topo Vs National Geographic Topo

Ive used neither myself but I am a little familar with the software offerings.

What is the Garmin package you're speaking of that has National 1:24,000 scale USGS quads native?

I'm confused because I know the parks are 1:24,000 but I thought Garmin Topo 2008 was at 1:100,000 , and don't see any other packages out

Re: Garmin USA Topo Vs National Geographic Topo

Thanks for the feed back Max. I now see the difference is in the scale. The Nat'l Geo is the one I want with the 1:24,000 scale. Garmin is 1:100,000 like you pointed out. Way to big for back country adventures.

No problem sorry for the bad (good?) news. I would definitely think 1:100k is too big for survival purposes.
