| Gilsson External Antenna - very good
Some of us were discussing the Gilsson external antenna, and I decided to go ahead and buy one. Sitting at my computer I was never able to get a signal - none at all. With the Gilsson I just got 15 minutes ago, I put it in the windowsill and ran the 9 foot cord over to my computer desk and plugged the Garmin in. I now have 10 satellites acquired and 17 foot accuracy. This antenna is small, the cord is thin, not really in the way at all, and the performance rocks. Yep, I think I spent my money well. |

Good to know, thanks for passing it along dav. I have a Garmin 25 MCX antenna that works wonders - I just never end up needing to use it. The Gilsson claims to outperform OEM that would be an interesting test.

I've got a Garmin 25 also. Since upgrading to devices with the SiRF chipset, I haven't used it. Even my Nuvi placed under my dash with no view of the sky shows 12' accuracy while moving.

the SiRF chip is awesome im a firefighter and our firehouse is a solid concrete building, the room where we sleep has no windows and steel doors and i get full signal with my astro 220. I will have to check how many sat. im getting and the accuracy, but still some guys dont even get cell reception in there.

I got the Garmin extrenal antenna yesterday and I was getting at best 17 feet. When I plugged in the antenna my reception went down to 8 feet accuracy. I don't know what it all means but it averages out to 10 feet while driving to and from work.

Am I to understand that the accuracy improves with an external if you are walking around outside with a clear field above, as compared to same with just the built in antenna? An improvement from 18 ft. down to 10 ft. would be great for geocaching. I have a Garmin 25 for my 60Cx and/or the wife's 550.

While it makes a big difference sitting on the windowsill here at home, I did not experience any actual improvement while geocaching. The cache is still not at ground zero most of the time, so finding a more exact ground zero doesn't help much. |
