I had a Garmin IQ3600 and was able to save a trip log onto my computer.
I now have a Garmin 760 and don't seem able to do this, I was in Africa last year and was able to keep a record of my entire trip.
Does anyone know if it is possible?

OH, just dawned on me...forgot about that series. Interesting.
How were you doing it with the IQ3600 Rick? did you make use of mapsource or any Garmin software?
To answer your question - I am not sure that the 760 has track logging as a feature. I don't think my Nuvi does, and that was one of the downsides of it - but I could be wrong. Let me summon some assistance..

Yes, my nüvi 750 supports this. You don't even have to do anything special, other than DO NOT press "clear trip log". (tools/my data/clear trip log)
In Mapsource there are four tabs on the left pane, MAPS, WAYPOINTS, ROUTES and TRACKS.
I just plugged my nüvi in to the PC USB port, clicked on TRACKS in Mapsource (which was empty at this time), clicked on the "receive from device" icon and 20 tracks were very quickly downloaded to Mapsource.
The nüvi starts a new track every time it is powered on. I chose one track with a little over 800 waypoints and right clicked it and said "display on map" and it zoomed out so the track would fit in the display.

Hi Dav
I just tried what you had done and nothing appeared, no tracks and I have quite a few, also the "tracks" box is greyed out so I guess it's not available on the 760

Hm, sorry to hear that.
I'm not techie enough to know where they are, what file extension, etc. I just know that works for me.
I looked through the directories on the Garmin and couldn't see anything that was obviously the track logs. The GPX files don't look like they contain enough info.
Guess I can't help. I'm sorry! |

Rick, I was just playing around with Google Earth. It would not import the tracks directly, so I had it open the GPX file: (drive)/garmin/GPX/current.gpx
Then I whittled it down to showing only the one track in Google Earth, and it displays basically the same thing I had in Mapsource.
So the trip log is part of the GPX file, I guess.

Thanks Dav
I haven't had a chance to try it, but will try when I can, and let you know.
It sounds like it might work and could even be better.
Thanks again
Rick
