If it's like previous models, you have to go in and change the language and choose one that has TTS beside it. It sounds more like a "computer" voice at that point though, so I don't use the TTS language myself.

Maybe the TTS voices onthe Nuvi are much improved over the ones on the 2720, because it sounds pretty bad.

Re: Nuvi 760 Text-to-Speech is off!!

Late arrival here, but yeah they are somewhat. Though there are also voice updates on the Garmin webupdater site. I am not sure if they show up for the 2720 but since they are TTS I believe they will...couldn't tell you if they are different or not because I have no idea what the old ones sounded like.

If they sound like a Robot named Jill - then yeah, still the same - but she does sound a bit more "polite" ? now

to answer that question, I don't know what the previous Jill sounded like but this one speaks too choppy, not natural at all. jack speaks more flowly, and because my muffler is loud, jills voice disappears among the engine noise..

my question is, can you connect an iPhone to use the handsfree feature on nuvi?

Re: Nuvi 760 Text-to-Speech is off!!

I have found that my Nuvi 760 spontaneously turns its speech off while navigating routes with multiple destinations. It was the ability to navigate and optimise routes with multiple destinations, combined with the TTS feature which led me to the Garmin Nuvi 760.

Currently, I am reduced to navigating the routes in segments – far less satisfactory and much less convenient. Which means I need a route list - on paper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Perhaps I should carry maps as well!

This flaw (or bug) renders it far less useful, meaning that I might as well have bought one of the less capable but much cheaper TomTom models which I can look at, rather than listen to the directions.

Note: To avoid theft, the unit is removed from the cradle and the cradle is hidden when each destination is reached. This bug happens very quickly if the unit is left 'on', but it also happens if the unit is switched-off, when prompted by removal from the cradle.

This occurs with TTS voices, [not tried with standard voices].

When I go through the menus=>Tools=>Settings=>Language=>Voice

Either the Voice button is blank – a blue rectangle without any text, or contains the text “None found”. Pressing the Voice button does nothing.

This means that while this bug is happening, it is impossible to turn the speech guidance back on. It seems to correct itself, spontaneously, when not navigating, but one has to keep checking whether the Voice button is still disabled - or not! [I don't know how long or what causes the voices to be come available again, I'm under time pressure and concentrating on driving and traffic, rather than messing-about with what should be reliable equipment]

I am most disappointed. This is not what I expected from Garmin.

Nuvi 760
Software version 4.2
GPS software version 2.80
Audio Version 1.2

Here are the screen shots of the voices that are off!

Just some of the voices that are really there!

The voice I normally use.

As this my first post with images, I inadvertently have attached an image which I don't know how to remove.

Re: Nuvi 760 Text-to-Speech is off!!

I believe this bug is the result of a hang on start problem. My nuvi 760 sometimes hangs on startup. It stops before the 'I agree' button. In order to get the unit to start, I have to slide the power button to the left and hold it, as per page 44 of the manual.
