Audio Test Page on a Nuvi 750

Hi all

I just received my Garmin Nuvi 750 about a week or so ago and am still trying it out. I love it so far.

I stumbled upon the "Audio Test Page" after wanting to see what kinda chip there was in my unit. I got there by pressing the battery icon for about 7/8 seconds. I have a question about that audio test page. Is "Jill 1.80" supposed to say the current phrase that is on the screen? Mine says nothing, although when I change the audio voice to a non-TTS voice, it will say the current phrase.

I dont have any problems with the voices during navigation. It's just after I startup my unit and press the "View Map" icon, with it showing "Ready to Navigate" up at the top, sometimes she'll say "Ready to Navigate", but lately she isn't saying that. Just wondering if something is wrong?

I did the webupdater thing so I do have version 2.60 in there. Please help.

Re: Audio Test Page on a Nuvi 750

First I had ever heard of an "audio test page".

Thanks for the info, I'll try it out and get back to you with my results.

That's incredible! Where did you find out about these pages? Are there others?

As far as your questions, some of the voices speak the phrase, some don't. I can't see the pattern. Jill does not.

Yes, there are lots of other pages...try pressing on the upper right hand of the screen and press the power button.

I am actually going to post a thread on this, since I've been experimenting

Thanks, Max. These are the kind of screens we geeks need to know about! Otherwise the nuvi line seems too wussified. Nice to know some of the information is still there, even if Garmin thinks the peasants should not have access to it.

So we're not supposed to be able to access those pages? You cant screw anything up by performing those tests that are listed on the different technical pages can you?

Re: Audio Test Page on a Nuvi 750

I doubt if anything can be damaged.

But if they wanted us to know about them, they would document them somewhere...

I'm used to products coming with multiple manuals:
1) Installation and/or "quick start" guide
2) User manual for normal use
3) Reference manual for technical issues

We're missing #3 from Garmin. (and #2 isn't much use)

Ok here is another easter egg (or maybe it's finally documented?). Put your fingertip on the satellite status bar on the main screen for about 5 seconds - you should be able to view the current state of affairs birdwise.

On the nuvi's you can't seem to screw up too many things that you couldn't get out of with a hard reset and another download of POI/favs.

On the streetpilots you can do bad things

Re: Audio Test Page on a Nuvi 750

Max, that's one I've been looking for! Thanks.

All GPS literature talks about the "satellite status" screen, and according to Garmin, there isn't one on the nüvi! Just didn't seem right.

My unit is at home, of course, so I can't try it right now... but will tonight!

I knew about the satellite status screen (I think I read that on here or another GPS forum)

I know this question had probably been asked before but whats the difference between the Nuvis and the Streetpilots besides the size difference.

My friend has a streetpilot 2620 and it seems to work the same as my Nuvi 750.

Re: Audio Test Page on a Nuvi 750

Form factor may be one of the biggest differences.

I consider my nüvi to be a portable. Fits in my shirt pocket so I can take it anywhere. I don't think street pilots allowed this.

Oh, you said besides size.

Okay, the nüvi does not allow display configuration, I think the streetpilots do. The nüvis allow multi-point routing and multiple routes, not sure about the streetpilots. The nüvis support MP3 and photo-viewer, I don't think streetpilots do either.

But I have a nüvi, not a streetpilot, so I don't really know!

The StreetPilot is also weatherproof.

You'd need one awfully big pocket for a streetpilot!

OK, I used the satellite status screen and the test screens on my 750 and found them both interesting and useful - any other "hidden" screens?

Go to the trip computer and hold the speedometer button for a few seconds.
