I'm about to buy the nuvi 750...

Hello everyone. I'm new to the forum and I'm about to buy the nuvi 750. Anybody have any opinions good or bad about the 750? I'm reading on other sites about it seems to take a long time to hook up to the satellites? Anyone else run into this? Is the 660 a better unit?

I have the 660. It was the "top" model when I got it. The 750 doesn't have bluetooth. If you want to use your phone through the device, the 750 wouldn't be the one. The 750 does have MSN service for gas prices, etc. A feature not on the 660. It also can store 10 routes. The 660 can't use any preplanned routes.

Today if I didn't need the bluetooth, I'd go for the 750.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any qualms about the pop-up antenna on the 660? Have you heard about the problems with satellite acquisition on the 750?

The pop up antenna is fine. With it not flipped out, the GPS is ON, but not tracking satellites. You can look up addresses, etc, just not get any guidance since it doesn't have a lock. You have to flip it up to use the car mount though. I don't use outside my truck. I haven't heard anything bad about the signal strength in the 750. Since the 660 is a few years old now, the 750 is probably a better choice if it has the features you are looking for.

I just got my Nuvi 750 yesterday and so far its been working really good - I live in a rural area and my 750 is able to lock onto the satellites within 5 seconds - Not sure why some people have that issue tho. The only thing I wish the Nuvi 750 came with is an AC adapter, thats my only problem

An AC adapter is available for purchase separately, right?

Re: I'm about to buy the nuvi 750...

I've had my 750 a few weeks now. Used it for our trip to Oregon (about 2400 miles round trip). Worked excellent.

I used to think a built in FM transmitter MP3 player was a gimmick. I'm sold on it now. A couple of 1G SD chips with 600 songs and we never ran out of music we both like.

My 750 will not pick up satellite signals while I'm in my condo. I'm a lower unit with people over us, so I'm not surprised. Absolutely no issues once outside.

I use my computer much more than my GPS, so I just plug it into the USB cable any time I think it might need charging. When in use in the car it is using the vehicle 12V, so it doesn't run down the battery.

It's good for about 4 hours of use disconnected from a power source. Since it isn't built for hiking, that has proved plenty. We went on our first ever geocache hunt today. Found it! Came back and geo-coded all the photos. The 750 worked very well, except it is hard to carry while hiking.

The AC adaptor is only $14.45 from Amazon. Not a bad deal at all.

As long as you don't want bluetooth but do want a unit with a more automotive rather than hiking design, the nuvi 750 is great.

Get it closer to a side of your condo. My 60csx picks up in my basement as long as I choose a side of the house to stand on that has some glass.

Oh and it will take about 5 minutes to lock on if INDOORS, yes...outdoors, seriously it should take seconds.
