| Can't Un-lock Maps - Nuvi 200 I have a small problem with a NUVI 200 that I recently purchased. I accidentally had a region on the map (MapSource) selected that wasn’t a part of the original package while downloading some way points. ![]() I have a 2720 as well and that came with the MapSource software that is unlocked for all of US and Canada. When I loaded the way points and one section of the Canadian map, the Nuvi took it, but now when it boot-up, it says “Can’t Unlock Maps”. Other than that warning, it seems to be OK with the original map detail that I am supposed to have. I need to delete that section of Canada that I uploaded. I have emailed the same message to Garmin, but I wonder when they might resolve this and how. Any suggestions? Is there a file on the Nuvi that I can delete? ![]() Thanks in advance for your help! ![]() |

Hey Catfish, Can you see the detail of the Canada map that you accidentally loaded? Since you have MS for the PC, I would erase all the unit (follow direections for a master reset/resetting data about 3/4 of the way through the manual) after backing up the waypoints. If you need an unlock code, I believe you can create an account on mygarmin and get one that way (for reloading the maps). Is there any way to look at the system settings and determine what maps are active on the 200 like there is on the 2720? does it show the Canada maps? |

| Re: Can't Un-lock Maps - Nuvi 200 Hey Max... Since joining this board and posting the tread, I also contacted Garmin; they responded amazingly fast. I asked them about a file that apparently is the map that I had uploaded; see the following: I had asked the following... Against what might be termed as better judgment, I took a look at the file “gmapsupp.img” through MS Notepad. Although there really wasn’t anything readable, there was a section at the top that said “Manitoba”, which was the section that I had uploaded. As the Nuvi appeared to be another drive on my PC, I felt it wasn’t going to do too much harm to remove this file and see if the problem went away. I could always drop it back in the folder and restore that file. The error has gone away, and I can’t see that I have lost any detail to the original map set. I received the following responce... No, you have done no harm to your Nuvi at all. The gmapsupp.img file is an unlock code from another mapping product. What you did, is just another way to do what the MapSource product would have done like I suggest. Quote:
