I just got a response from Garmin for my error submission, with their thanks. They suggested I also report it to THEIR source for data here: NAVTEQ - NAVTEQ Map Reporterâ„¢ I am beginning to see why the error I noticed is showing up all over the place - it seems most get their data from the same source! Well, I finally had the street names corrected. My street and the street before mine. I went right to the source. Tele-Atlas and Navteq. Tele-Atlas (TomTom) provided the best and quickest response. Navteq (Garmin) was awful trying to communicate with them. I first tried the websites of Garmin and TomTom. Who knows where that information goes. And the Garmin website did not provide a means to correct the spelling of street names (they may have updated their website since). I actually wrote a paper letter to both Tele-Atlas and Navteq. Tele-Atlas promptly responded in writing. I never did receive a response from Navteq. As I stated - both streets have been corrected with Tele-Atlas and Navteq. They tell me that it takes about 2 map cycles for the updates to show up on their maps. Navteq was a real pain and difficult to get through. I had to contact the actual Navteq webmaster to get any results. That person did contact me. But I should not have to cantact the webmaster to make a simple correction. And it is not the webmasters job. Thank you Navteq webmaster! On another note - one POI - a local gas station in my small town is positioned in the wrong place. Both Garmin and TomTom send me in the wrong direction. I am told that the POI's use the mailing address of any business. And in my small town - this one gas station - the owner uses a PO Box. Not the physical address. I am told that POI's use Dunn & Bradstreet for business addresses and they use whatever address that is provided to them for the POI. And it is up to the owner of business to make those corrections. So . . . if you get mis-sent to some POI - it could be that the owner of that business may have provided Dunn & Bradstreet with some other address - such as a mailing address that is different from the actual physical address. |
