| Loading mp3 files to a nuvi 660
Does anyone out there have any experience in loading mp3 files into a nuvi (660or other)? I tried copying files to a 2gb SD card and inserting it into the card slot. No joy. Also, will the nuvi play a .wma format file? That is the format I use on my mp3 player. Thanks, Don |

Hi Don, welcome to the site! Unfortunately, the Nuvi 660 only supports mp3 files and not .wma files. |

Garmin's FAQ mentions something about any WMA files needing DRM to play. I guess the Nuvi isn't something Microsoft will allow their files to play on. There are some converting programs out there to make mp3s out of wma files. |

Use Real player to rip your CDs and it makes them MP3 files..I put about 90 on my Nuvi 650 It works great and sounds great with Ear buds...It even puts the album art up as a picture as it is playing...

I've made some progress. I converted some .wma filse to .mp3 and loaded them into my nuvi 660 connected my computer via a USB cable. I then was able to play them on the nuvi. However, because of the limited internal memory on the unit, I'd like to load the .mp3 to a SD memory card and play them from there. I tried that, but couldn't access the .mp3 files with the SD card inserted into the nuvi. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Don |

When the SD card is in there is a Source Choice on the Nuvi. It will let you change Sources for more Music. I even moved the Songs that came on the Nuvi to the SD card to open up more memory in my Nuvi. You can even make more files. I will sort by album , or artist, or Music type..

Zecpull, Which model nuvi do you have? On my nuvi 660 when I press the source key, the only options I have are the Audable.com files or the music files stored in the internal memory. Is there some sort of setup you need to do to get it to recognize the files on the SD card? Don |
