Where to get the best price on Garmin Zumo 550?

I was just wondering if anyone had seen decent deals from any reputable places recently? A friend is looking for one and thus far the best price I have seen was costco.com for 669$

Costco - Garmin z?mo? 550

GPSdiscount has it for $689, and the shipping is free 2-day air..so fairly comparable if in a rush I guess

GPS Discount, Inc' sells name brand GPS receivers, fishfinders, marine chart plotters and topographical mapping software along with other outdoor items.

Just wanted to see if anyone out there was on the hunt and found some decent pricing, thanks

If they can wait a while, refurb's should start showing up at a steep discount. That's what I'm waiting on....

Re: Where to get the best price on Garmin Zumo 550?

Hmm valid point...I was wondering how long till that occurs. I didn't see any at Edgegps yet, and I noticed on *some* nuvi's there isn't really much of a availability for them refurb so I was thinking maybe they might do the same with the Zumo's?

Who will join up?

Thanks for the direction guys!

I don't mind waiting a bit for the refurbs. That will help me fund the XM ant.

Where should I watch for them?

I think edgegps.com has constant refurb inflow but haven't dealt with them personally.
Keith had pointed me towards a reputable ebay seller for refurbs awhile ago, maybe he still has the sellers name?

Yeah, I was looking for that guy again recently for Tim, but couldn't find him. I should still have the End Of Auction stuff somewhere in my e-mail, just have to find it.

This is where I got my refurb'd 2720, but they don't list much on their site: Ocean Electronics - Marine Sales

Might be worth sending them an e-mail to ask.

Re: Where to get the best price on Garmin Zumo 550?

Look on sites like Pricegrabber or fatwallet for the best deals. I checked for you: Fatwallet doesn't have it listed, and pricegrabber has some ok deals, but some of the stores may be shady.

PriceGrabber.com - Comparison Shopping Beyond Compare

The best place I found was BuyDig for $611 (I've bought a camera from them before and had a good experience). Free shipping, no tax for most states.

Anyway, wherever you find a sweet price, update this thread with it. Here's what I found so far:

Re: Where to get the best price on Garmin Zumo 550?

I purchased my zumo 550 this past Christmas and just now getting a chance to use it on a regular bases. My wife paid something like $649.99 at Marks Outdoor Gear - Authorized | Garmin | Magellan | TomTom | GPS | Dealer | Accessories | Cincinnati, OH.. I just went there today to add an XM Satellite Receiver and found that they now have the 550 for $629.99.

I was very happy with them and absolutely love my zumo.

PS. I noticed that Keith listed CameraAddict.com but I tried that and a few others in the NY area and this price is only for the unit, they want to sale you everything else as a separate item. When I called them they told me that I had to purchase memory on the unit and it wouldn't work without it and the mounts came separate. So be careful.

I will tell you that when I got my zumo three of my best friends went to marksoutdoorgear and purchased their and had no trouble at all. Brand New from an authorized dealer.

Re: Where to get the best price on Garmin Zumo 550?

It's the boxed Zumo unit, so it comes with everything you need to get started. Any additional stuff they try to sell you is just extra. Most anywhere you buy things, they are going to try to sell you accessories. The $577 price at CameraAddict comes with everything you need.

Re: Where to get the best price on Garmin Zumo 550?

Keith, I believe you maybe wrong on this, but I'm off tomorrow and I will call them and find out. I know when I called a few months ago and once again one of the riders in our group called them on 3/12/08 and they informed us that this was just the item. The sales person actually said "why not just purchase the the kit for $699.99" I was lost for words because if I purchase item 010-00567-00 it should have everything. He did jump in and state that he would sell me the model complete for $699.99.

There is no way that they can purchase and sell the complete kit for this price. One of the riders in our group is a purchaser for Best Buy and their "cost" is over 600.00.

I apologize for posting that info, I just didn't wont to see someone be taken by this misleading advertisement that is standard practiced on some comparison shopping sites.

Re: Where to get the best price on Garmin Zumo 550?

Hello,

I was not able to get anyone on Monday but I talked to Mickey today at ext: 266 and he informed me that the item advertised, zumo 550, that is listed for $577.00 is a European model and the language is in Chinese’s. If I wanted the North American version I was going to cost me 699.00 and would ship-out within 24-48 hours.

I told him I would call him back. I then proceeded to purchase it online and 3 hours later I got a phone trying to sell me memory card for 189.00. I told him I didn't think I needed the card and asked if this had North American maps on it, the rep said yes but it would not work without the memory card. I then informed him that I had spoken with Micky and he said that this was a European model, the rep asked me to hold one second. Came back and said that it was but if I purchase the memory card it would have North American software on it, he first told me it was a blank memory card so my zumo could store my destinations. I told him that now I'm really confused. He hung up the phone and within 30 minutes I got an email stating that my order was cancelled. I contacted my AMEx and reported the possible fraud.

We'll see if the try to run it anyway.

Oh nevermind, I wouldn't touch that site with a tree pruner:

Camera Addict Reviews and Store Ratings at BizRate

Mention of them in here..

TechonDigital / Camera Addict - CNET Digital cameras Forums

here...

https://www.nextag.com/Wild+Digital~...z1zmainz17-htm

It's pretty easy to find alot of negative references about them actually, so I'll stop now.

Case closed IMO.

I stay away from any camera or electronics place from NY. I had a bad experience buying a camcorder about 10 years ago from one. I don't remember the name, but it was basically some hole in the wall place, similar to the multi-named place like Camera Addict.

Re: Where to get the best price on Garmin Zumo 550?

Yeah, Brooklyn is like Nigeria to me since about 2003...bought a Canon online and they called to do the "credit denied upsell". I told them to cancel my order, they backpedalled, and I did get free overnight shipping out of the deal - so that was cool. However, the antics had me looking at those sites alot more scrupulously...

Sorry Andy, I have to chime in. Have you ever bought anything from these clowns. They don't ship what they advertise, don't honor current or extended warranty and are not interested in customer service. I bought my 2610 from them four years ago and things were fine until I needed a warranty repair outside the factory 1 year, but within thier one to two year extended and it was an absolute nightmare. I filed a complaint that the Indiana and California attorney general's and they literially fabricated a email conversation between me and them and point blank called me a lair. Since the legal would end up costing more than the repair, I choke it down. I have never in my life had to deal with such a poor excuse for a business.

Check their BBB rating.... It is an "F".....go figure
